FathomDB has joined Meteor

FathomDB set out in 2008 to make working with databases easy. We were the first to launch a relational database-as-a-service, launching MySQL as-a-service on Amazon and Rackspace clouds. We were the first standalone XaaS product for a standard server, a model which has since become ubiquitous. We were among the first contributors to OpenStack, working to provide an open-source cloud, and contributed to their database-as-a-service component.

Along the way, we recognized the shortcomings of traditional databases in the cloud model, and set out to build a 'cloud-first' relational database. That work is not yet complete.

Meteor shares FathomDB's goals of simplifying working with data and databases, but takes the vision much further. Meteor is a complete solution to building applications that work with data; where changes happen in real-time on multiple devices that are not always connected, yet the time available for this more complex development is ever-shorter.

Many thanks to all the wonderful people that helped us so much along the way, in particular: YCombinator, XGYC, Mixin Capital, Trevor Blackwell, Paul Buchheit and Paul Graham. And a special thanks to all the people we've had the honor to work with over the years; I hope we'll be able to work together again in the future.
